The Flight Communications & Tracking section at JPL is seeking a postdoc to conduct research on high-performance atomic and ion-based clocks. This role focuses on advancing experimental quantum optics techniques to support the design, construction, and operation of compact vacuum atomic clock systems. The position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge clock technology with applications for NASA and USSF missions.

• Conduct experimental research on atomic and ion-based clocks, including the design and operation of compact vacuum systems.
• Develop and implement precision measurement protocols to improve atomic clock performance.
• Collaborate with JPL scientists to integrate new clock technologies into ongoing mission campaigns.
• Document experimental procedures and maintain reproducible data and analysis records.
• Lead peer‑reviewed publications and present research findings at scientific conferences.

• Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Quantum Optics, or a related field.
• Strong experimental expertise in quantum optics, atomic, and ion‑based clocks.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and operating compact vacuum systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with a JPL advisor, resulting in publications in the open literature.

Applicants may be subject to additional program requirements by NASA. Postdoc positions are awarded for a minimum of one‑year period and may be renewed up to a maximum of three years. The typical full‑time equivalent annual hiring range for this job in Pasadena, California is $83,820 - $83,820.
