The Amazon Web Services Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) in Pasadena, CA; a multi-disciplinary team of experimental and theoretical physicists, materials scientists, hardware and software engineers is seeking an Applied Scientist. Candidates should have a strong foundation in experimental physics, deep knowledge of measurement techniques, and a track record of original scientific contributions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Part of the Physical Metrology and Exploration (PME) subgroup within the Device team.
• Work with basic building blocks of quantum processors – superconducting films, resonators, junctions, and qubits.
• Support CQC’s central activities by developing devices, understanding physical principles, identifying performance limitations, and enhancing capabilities.
• Develop and refine physical metrology methods, devising new ones to gain deeper insights.
• Design, fabricate, and integrate cryogenics, signal chain, and control software for experiments.
• Provide recommendations that improve next‑generation quantum processors based on research findings.

• PhD or Master’s degree and 4+ years of science/technology/engineering or related field experience.
• Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals.
• Programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
• Broad experience in experimental physics with the ability to learn new topics.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.

• Deep knowledge and experience in low‑temperature condensed matter physics.
