Painter

Department: Facilities and Construction Services, Business & Administrative Services

Location: 1570

E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: $6,283.25 - $6,927.23 Monthly (CSEA-50)

Schedule: Swing Monday-Friday 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm (+5% swing shift)

Benefits: 100% medical, dental, vision; up to 21 paid holidays; 12 days vacation; 12 days sick leave

Summary: Under direction, to perform journeyman level work to add protective and ornamental coatings to surfaces and equipment with brush and spray; and to do related work as required.

Essential Duties
  • Wash, sand, and fill surfaces.
  • Paint all types of interior and exterior surfaces with spray, brush, or roller.
  • Prepare and finish surfaces on cabinets and furniture.
  • Match colors and mix paints and stains.
  • Order supplies and materials.
  • Work from scaffolding, ladders, and swing stages, if needed.
  • Cut and set windows and mirrors.
  • Lay out and stripe parking stalls and game courts.
  • At the request of a supervisor, perform a variety of unscheduled duties normally and traditionally performed by a Painter.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of four years of apprenticeship.
  • One year full-time experience as a journeyman painter doing a variety of work using various types of paint applications on structures and equipment.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in painting; of methods of rigging and scaffolding; of preparing a wide variety of surfaces for painting; of caring for brushes and painting equipment; of preparing, mixing, blending, and preserving different painting materials; knowledge of methods and materials used in sign painting. Ability to estimate time and materials needed, to mix and match paints;

to recommend blending, harmonizing, and contrasting colors; to work in a multiethnic environment.
