POSITION SUMMARY:
The Parish Maintenance Worker will perform tasks to maintain various facilities and buildings at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish on weekdays and weekends. We are looking for a Part-time individual to perform preventive maintenance, painting, installations, a variety of repairs to all facilities, setup/breakdown of tables/chairs and equipment for events, and repair of fixtures, appliances, and equipment. Open and close facilities for events.
Performs various routine maintenance and repairs on plumbing, heating, electrical, and other facility systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:
Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Church’s goals and mission while performing their work.
The following tasks are considered essential functions of the position. To perform the job successfully, an employee must possess the abilities and aptitude to perform each duty proficiently.
- Installs and replaces minor work on pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain heating, water, gas, and drainage systems; repairs leaks; opens clogged drains; repairs boilers.
- Keeps electrical equipment, such as wiring, motors, switches, and electrical mechanisms, in good condition; repairs; replaces defective wiring and makes connections to new electrical installations; replaces parts in motors; cleans and oils motors; repairs electrical fixtures; and replaces light bulbs.
- Maintains refrigeration equipment in good working order; inspects mechanical controls and instruments to ensure efficient operation and adjusts controls as necessary; performs routine maintenance of equipment.
- Performs routine carpentry work such as building and fitting shelves, repairing doors, and making simple repairs to furniture or fittings.
- Performs routine manual labor such as moving furniture and replacing light fixtures.
- Paints, stains, redecorates walls, woodwork and fixtures of buildings; mixes paint, matches color, applies paint using rollers, brushes or sprayers as appropriate to job; prepares surfaces by removing old finish using scraper, chemicals or sander; fills holes, joints and cracks with plaster.
- Determines supplies and equipment required and goes to supplier and purchases same; purchases/picks up other parts, supplies or equipment for Parish as necessary.
- Performs related duties as required, such as slurry sealing driveways, testing fire equipment for usability, and making/cementing small projects such as repairing holes in concrete.
- Opens facilities for events or meetings and sets the air conditioning to the appropriate temperature. Secures facilities at the end of meetings or events.
- Occasionally performs custodial/janitorial tasks.
- Actively supports the philosophy and goals of the Church.
- Performs related duties as necessary
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:
- Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of facilities maintenance experience
- Current VIRTUS Certification and participate in Live Scan fingerprinting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The mission and organizational structure of the Catholic Church.
Skill
- Effective verbal and written communication. For positions requiring bilingual skills, the incumbent must also be reasonably fluent in English and Spanish or other language.
- Public contact.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and repair skills.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy objects 50 lbs. or more.
- Ability to frequently perform tasks that require climbing, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and bending.
- Ability to stand and walk for sustained periods of time.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
