Maintenance Electrician II (6:00am‑2:30pm) – Three Positions

Location: Pasadena, Maryland

Job Summary

Performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems. Acts as lead worker of a small crew and is responsible for performing emergency and complex electrical repair tasks.

Additional Work Days/Hours
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, inclement weather, on‑call, overtime, shift work, and summer hours.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Acts as working leader in supervising less skilled tradesmen in electrical repair and maintenance.
  • Lays out work for self and crew.
  • Assigns, instructs, and inspects work of helpers, trainees, and lower‑level tradesmen.
  • Wires buildings, adds motor control wiring, and performs 227‑480 switch‑gear work.
  • Installs and repairs electrical switches, relays, fluorescent and general lighting fixtures.
  • Repairs and replaces motor control equipment.
  • Assists in installation and repair of fire and security alarms.
  • Assists in design, layout, and time estimation for in‑house electrical projects.
  • Tests faulty equipment with standard instruments (volt/ohm meter, amprobe, etc.).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required; technical or vocational training beyond high school is preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressive electrical experience required.

  • Knowledge of hazardous materials procedures and regulations.
  • Experience with commercial wiring, motor control wiring, and 277‑480 switch‑gear work.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and make judgments within established parameters.
  • Ability to safely use and operate lifts; training provided if necessary.
  • Team oriented with leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must provide own basic hand tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficient with business technology tools (e‑mail, intranet, benefits enrollment, Microsoft Office).
Licenses & Certifications
  • Upon hire, an Electrician Journeyperson License issued by the Maryland Board of Master Electricians is required.
  • Driver’s License (Class C Non‑Commercial) from Maryland or state of legal residence required.
  • Proof of a good driving record required.
  • Daily reliable transportation required.
Driving & Travel Requirements
  • Driving required to conduct board business within the scope of employment.
  • Board vehicle provided.
  • 30% daily travel within the county for school‑to‑school assignments.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, squatting, talking, hearing, smelling, repetitive motions, eye/hand/foot coordination, driving as necessary.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather, extreme heat or cold, high or precarious places, chemical fumes, electrical shock risk.
  • Color vision required.
