The Mechanic Specialist position will be based out of Kinder Morgan’s West Clear Lake Storage location in Pasadena, TX. Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Our terminals store and handle petroleum products, chemicals and other products.

Primary

Purpose
  • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and/or auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform heavy mechanical maintenance and replacement of reciprocating and turbine engines and compressors, including prime movers and auxiliary units.
  • This position reports to a Crew Leader to ensure consistency in maintenance practices and detailed computer documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess the condition of engine and compressor components and perform required maintenance based on company standards and original manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Identify, report, and assist in correcting safety and environmental concerns.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and a high level of performance.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.
  • Carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non‑working hours.
  • Follow all safety policies to complete tasks in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, with an emphasis on finishing each day injury‑free and incident‑free.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance of reciprocating/centrifugal compressor units.
  • Preferably, experience with turbine engines, natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment.
Certifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license, and maintain a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
Competencies
  • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of compressor engines.
  • Experience with turbine engines, natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and light industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret company policies, the Operations & Maintenance manual and blueprints.
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency or after‑hours calls.
  • Good communication skills – interface effectively with internal and external customers, regulatory officials, company contacts and co‑workers.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, internal combustion engines, gas turbines, pumps, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software if applicable); trainable to custom software applications.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Customer focus.
  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to required work schedules.
  • Responsible for ordering and receiving parts, completing timesheets and expense accounts, and maintaining a company vehicle.
  • Act as a company representative when interacting with contractors and vendors.
  • Work effectively in a team atmosphere; typical schedule Monday through Thursday, ten hours per day.
  • Will require significant overnight travel, working outside normal hours, overtime, schedule changes, and ability to respond to call‑outs.
