The API Inspector is responsible for performing inspections on pressure vessels, piping, tanks, and other static mechanical equipment in accordance with applicable API codes (e.g., API 510, API 570, API 653). The role ensures the mechanical integrity and safety compliance of assets during operations, turnarounds, and outages.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct internal and external inspections of equipment in accordance with API 510, 570, and/or 653 standards.
  • Evaluate the condition and integrity of pressure vessels, piping systems, and above ground storage tanks.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and document findings using digital reporting tools or databases.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to prioritize inspection tasks.
  • Recommend repair or replacement strategies based on inspection findings.
  • Assist with developing inspection plans and schedules for routine and turnaround inspections.
  • Maintain inspection certifications and stay current with updates to API codes and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Required

    Certifications:

    At least one active API certification
  • API 510 – Pressure Vessel Inspector
  • API 570 – Piping Inspector
  • NDE qualifications (e.g., MT, PT, UT, RT) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of ASME and other related codes.
  • Experience with Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology is preferred.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with inspection management software (e.g., PCMS, Ultra

    PIPE, Credo, etc.)
Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED (required); associate or technical degree (preferred).

3–5 years of relevant inspection experience in refinery, chemical plant, or similar heavy industry.

Work may be conducted in hazardous environments, including confined spaces, at heights, or in extreme temperatures.

May involve climbing, lifting, and long periods of standing or walking.
