Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Overview
INEOS Phenol – the world’s largest producer of phenol and acetone – is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to support facility-wide maintenance activities in Pasadena, TX. This role focuses on safety, reliability, and cost-effective maintenance, providing technical support across all maintenance disciplines and managing assigned capital projects.
Responsibilities- Maintain safety as the highest priority and comply with all INEOS safety policies and the “20 Principles of Safety”.
- Promote safety and “Stop Work” culture through communication with employees, contractors, and supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulatory requirements and meet internal SHE objectives.
- Complete own and direct subordinate safety training as outlined in the annual training schedule.
- Provide technical support and recommendations to improve overall equipment reliability.
- Optimize predictive and preventive maintenance tasks; identify gaps, develop corrective action plans, and evaluate improvement performance.
- Monitor and analyze “Top Ten” equipment failures; recommend actions to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
- Support the Maintenance Supervisor with equipment vibration data management and analysis.
- Apply mechanical knowledge to enhance equipment reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Implement precision maintenance techniques to improve work efficiency.
- Assist Maintenance Supervisors in ensuring quality services and repairs.
- Manage safety relief valve inspections and recertification, adjusting inspection frequency based on performance data.
- Evaluate equipment spare‑parts inventory to ensure availability for critical assets.
- Assist in training and development of in‑house maintenance resources.
- Plan, schedule, and manage capital projects assigned to the maintenance department, including cost and schedule accountability.
- Assist maintenance staff in developing the annual maintenance budget and the major turnaround (TAR) budget and schedule (every 3 years).
- Assume the Maintenance Manager’s responsibilities in their absence.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with five years of relevant experience in an industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical background and ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation for production equipment, vessels, and tankage.
- Knowledge of safety, maintenance, and operations management systems.
- Proficient in SAP (reviewing work‑order history, evaluating maintenance costs, creating requisitions, and processing notifications) and Microsoft Project.
- Proficient use of office equipment (PC, calculator, multi‑line telephone, copier, printer, scanner, fax) and software (Microsoft Office, Skype, Visio, Adobe PDF, SharePoint, SAP, Microsoft Project).
- Familiarity with site systems such as Emerson DCS, PI Historian, COA Database, Training Mine, Alfresco Document Management, and Esker.
- Excellent oral and written communication, teamwork, prioritization, and constructive feedback skills.
- Ability to organize work and balance competing priorities while delivering business value.
Medium work:
Exerting up to 50lb of force occasionally, up to 20lb frequently, and up to 10lb constantly to move objects. Exposure to environmental conditions (extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric contaminants, oils) is anticipated.
