Position

The Stationary Equipment Inspector supports the Bayport Polymers Plant in Pasadena, TX, a four-line polypropylene (PP) manufacturing facility with an annual benchmark capacity of approximately 2,000 MMlbs, and is responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity of the site’s Stationary Equipment assets.

A Day in the Life
  • Manage relevant Stationary Equipment damage mechanisms through the identification, execution, and documentation of inspections by equipment type (vessel, heat exchanger, piping circuit).
  • Create and execute individual inspection plans for Stationary Equipment using Meridium (APM) Inspection Data Management System (IDMS).
  • Create inspection recommendations for findings requiring action and track them to closure.
  • Lead or participate in risk assessments associated with delayed or cancelled Stationary Equipment inspections, process deferrals for overdue or upcoming inspections and recommendations as necessary.
  • Develop and manage work processes in accordance with corporate guidance to mitigate risk from locations that are challenging to inspect for relevant damage mechanisms.
  • Manage the site’s corrosion under insulation (CUI), corrosion under fireproofing (CUF), maintenance paint program (MPP) and external stress corrosion cracking (ESCC) work processes.
  • Manage the site’s pressure relief device work processes.
  • Manage the inspection work processes for special equipment including but not limited to: elevated flare, non-metallic tanks, cooling towers, structures, and grating).
  • Manage the site’s Stationary Equipment quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) work processes.
  • Manage the site’s work processes for the design, installation, monitoring, modification, and removal activities associated with temporary repairs.
  • Take ownership of the site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for inspection, both in monthly reporting and in addressing causes for KPIs below target.
  • Direct contract inspection resources for execution of the site asset strategy in accordance with site work processes.
  • Assess the risk associated with and document the rationale for any Stationary Equipment not assigned an individual Inspection Plan.
  • Provide technical support/expertise within your discipline during the front-end engineering and design (FEED) and execution phases of capital projects to ensure newly-installed and modified assets realize value throughout their life cycle.
  • Engage with peers across the company to share and learn about best practices and lessons learned for Mechanical Integrity related topics.
You Bring This Value
  • A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
  • 3 years or more of experience in mechanical integrity inspection-related activities in a refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industry.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely and be assertive in recommending repairs critical to plant safety using industry standards and practices.
  • Ability to utilize SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Stationary Equipment Inspector certifications required: API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector), API 570 (Piping Inspector), API 653 (Above ground Storage Tank Inspector).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or college level courses preferred.
  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI).
  • Mechanical inspection experience at a Polypropylene (PP) manufacturing site.
  • Knowledge of equipment (vessel, heat exchanger, piping, reactor, furnace, boiler) and failure mechanisms (corrosion, erosion, chloride stress corrosion cracking, fretting, maintenance, and repair).
  • Working knowledge of NBIC, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, ASME Section V, ANSI

    B.16.5, ANSI

    B.31.3, and ANSI

    B.31.1.
  • Pressure relief device operation, failure mechanisms, and NBIC code requirements.
  • Awareness and application of non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques such as visual, UT, MT, PT, and RT (film interpretation).
  • Software proficiency:
    Meridium.
