Analyzer Technician Job Description

An Analyzer Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing analytical instrumentation used in industrial facilities such as refineries, chemical plants, power plants, and manufacturing sites. These instruments monitor process conditions, product quality, emissions, and safety compliance.

Common analyzers include:
  • Gas chromatographs (GC)
  • Oxygen analyzers
  • pH analyzers
  • Moisture analyzers
  • Conductivity analyzers
  • Emissions monitoring systems
  • Spectrometers
  • Process sampling systems
Analyzer Technicians work closely with operations, instrumentation, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure accurate and reliable analyzer performance.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on analytical equipment
  • Calibrate and validate analyzers according to company procedures
  • Troubleshoot instrument and sampling system issues
  • Repair or replace faulty analyzer components
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Support plant startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and technical manuals
  • Configure analyzer software and communication systems
  • Assist with analyzer installations and commissioning
  • Verify analyzer accuracy against laboratory results
  • Maintain sample conditioning systems and probes
  • Coordinate with operations to minimize downtime
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit procedures
  • Maintain housekeeping and safe work practices in analyzer shelters and process areas
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and process controls
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation and calibration
  • Understanding of electrical systems and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with PLC/DCS systems
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA and plant safety standards
  • Associate degree or technical certification preferred
  • Experience in petrochemical, refinery, or manufacturing environments preferred
Common Work Environment

Analyzer Technicians typically work:
  • In chemical plants, refineries, LNG facilities, or industrial plants
  • Both indoors and outdoors
  • Around high-temperature and hazardous process equipment
  • On rotating schedules, call-outs, or overtime when needed
