Position Summary
Contributes to the organization by assisting with patient care during an eye exam. The Optometric performs basic, advanced and complex procedures in assisting the optometrist; all to be handled accurately, quickly and courteously.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform preliminary evaluation of patients prior to exam by the OD, such as dilation, topicals, autorefract ions, etc.
- Perform verbal interview with patient prior to visit with OD to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit.
- Provides support to the Optometrist to care for patients in a timely, effective manner, as closely to appointed schedule as possible.
- Assist Optometrist to care for patients in a timely, effective manner, as closely to appointed schedule as possible.
- Records and maintains patient records/files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
- Respond to patient's telephone inquiries and voicemails regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
- Assist with the insertion and removal of contact lenses.
- Orders soft and hard contact trials for the Optometrist.
- Greet and direct all patients as they enter the facility.
- Prepare, clean and maintain exam rooms; restock as needed.
- Schedule follow‑up appointments, verify insurance for patient exam visits and verify appointment times with patients.
- Provide patients with an explanation of insurance benefits as needed.
- Order and check in on contacts.
- Verify and file insurance for contact purchases.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and reach. Use care and proper judgment when lifting or carrying items ensuring to utilize proper posture and body mechanics. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Classified as having occupational exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. Exposure to communicable disease.

Qualifications- Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. - Certifications & Licenses: N/A.
- Experience:
1 year of optometry experience preferred. - Spanish Required.
