Job Summary and Qualifications
To maintain an efficient, safe and pleasant work environment. To assist the Director, Medical Director and Physicist in directing all aspects of care provided by the Medical Imaging Department, including but not limited to procedures, treatments, quality improvement, quality control and other related duties. The technologist produces two‑dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by physicians in diagnosis of disease and study of organ malfunction.
Whatyou will do in this role
- Keys test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
- Assists physician with ultrasound‑guided biopsies or invasive procedures.
- Assures the department meets the criteria for accreditation agencies, including TDH and TJC.
- Ensures adherence to ethics and compliance standards, including annual participation in Code of Conduct training.
- Explains the procedure to patients and assists them in assuming the physical position for examination.
- Moves the transducer by hand over specified body areas and monitors the sound‑wave display to assess image quality.
- Passes the competency exam annually.
- Photographs images on the display module, or removes strip printouts, to obtain a permanent record of the internal examination.
- May travel to/from different sites for patient care.
- Selects equipment for use in the ultrasound setup according to the examination specifications.
- Selects the appropriate transducer and adjusts equipment controls based on the organ, depth of field, and other test specifications.
- Starts equipment that produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
- Practice AIDET communication skills.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), RDMS Abdomen Specialty (RDMS-AB), RDMS Obstetrics & Gynecology (RDMS-OB/GYN), Associate Degree, or Certificate.
