Job Overview
As an integral part of the Imaging Services Team, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides support in the performance of high quality radionuclide imaging, therapeutic and lab procedures to assure optimum service and care to every patient.
Responsibilities- Organize, plan, and direct patient and procedure activities in the assigned area.
- Demonstrate knowledge of physics, scanning techniques, and computer skills related to nuclear scanning.
- Possess complete working knowledge of nuclear imaging equipment and associated software.
- Order, handle, prepare, administer, and document radioactive isotopes safely and efficiently.
- Perform calculations of test results using appropriate tools.
- Plan and execute procedures considering physiological and developmental factors for patients of all ages.
- Review examinations for correct positioning, technique, and protocol adherence.
- Verify patient identification using hospital identifiers such as name and date of birth.
- Review patient questionnaires, physician orders, and requisitions to ensure safety and appropriateness; consult with radiologist and patient as needed.
- Recognize emergency situations, initiate code procedures, and provide appropriate aid.
- Perform visual inspections of equipment, select appropriate devices, and apply immobilization when required.
- Practice sterile technique and prevent cross‑contamination of patients and instruments.
- Record patient information, complete paperwork, and maintain accurate files.
- Complete billing functions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Document isotopes, including ordering, storage, and disposal, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and radiation safety recommendations.
- Prepare examinations for radiologist interpretation.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and supply readiness in nuclear medicine work areas.
- Assist with ordering and stocking of department supplies and equipment.
- Perform additional related duties as required, such as scheduling, quality control follow‑up, transport, and clerical tasks.
- Participate in after‑hours uncontrolled standby and callback duties.
- Operate a pager while on duty and on standby, if required.
- Accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program completion.
- Minimum one year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
- Historical educational eligibility through the former “On the Job” (OTJ) pathway, if certification was maintained prior to its retirement in 2015.
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist – CNMT (NMTCB) and/or R.T.(N)(ARRT) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CA DPH).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training – Los Angeles City. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed before expiration.
The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 – $87.45.
