Job Summary
Responsible for the purchase of goods, materials, and services for wastewater treatment facility including maintenance of purchase order system, contacting vendors, processing of receiving reports, and facilitating payment.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Perform activities associated with the acquisition of goods, materials and services including receiving PO requests, competitive bidding, vendor contact, assigning of vendor for purchase, coordination of PO authorization, and notification of vendor.
- Process PO information into computer system including assignment of PO number, entry of receiving report information, and maintenance of files.
- Perform activities to coordinate between vendors and accounts payable to ensure prompt payment of invoices.
- Investigate new item on the market and meet with vendors.
- Ensure that GCA purchasing procedures are followed.
- Communicate with vendors, facility personnel, central office personnel, and others to insure obtaining proper supplies and materials.
- Manage purchasing card transaction allocations.
- Communicate changes and train back up.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the GCA Purchase Order System Manual and Purchasing Card Procedures.
- Knowledge of the operations of a wastewater treatment plant, laboratory and mechanical and tool terminology.
- Skill in the operation of computer systems including the use of Microsoft office and purchasing and financial software.
- Ability to read vendor technical information, purchase order requests, written orders, reference books, and instruction manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary to verify quantities, and other information on bids and orders.
- Ability to write memoranda, bid documents, and reports.
- Ability to operate office equipment such as computer and printer, calculator, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
- Ability to communicate in person, by telephone, and/or by computer.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at an industrial setting.
Education, certification, and experience required- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in purchasing operations and/or warehouse stock control, with experience in the use of computers in these applications.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s license.
- Ability to sit while performing various assigned tasks.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, crouch/stoop, squat, and twist upper body while filing and moving about the plant.
