High Voltage Electrical Technician – Bayport, TX

Air Liquide is hiring a High Voltage Electrical Technician based in Beaumont, TX with frequent travel to the Pasadena, TX area (mileage paid). This role focuses on ensuring safety, reliability, and quality in high voltage systems and substation operations.

Responsibilities
  • Support and comply with all Air Liquide safety, health, and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Comply with NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 (NEC) requirements.
  • Complete required training (Smart Solve, Cornerstone CBTs, Corporate, Onsite, Electrical Safety, etc.).
  • Provide technical assistance in medium/high voltage systems, synchronous and induction motors, substations, and distribution equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480 V MCC starters, contractors and controls.
  • Partner with plant operations personnel to resolve electrical issues in steam boilers, water treatment systems, and electrical substations.
  • Ensure reliability and safe operation of 138 kV/13.2 kV substation.
  • Serve as primary customer contact for substation issues and perform switching operations as needed.
  • Perform substation rounds (check relays for alarm conditions, verify proper voltage levels to customers, inspect batteries, climate control systems, etc.).
  • Coordinate and support preventive maintenance (PM) of electrical equipment.
  • Support turnarounds at pipeline facilities (ASU, Cogen, H₂) by completing PM and PdM work on electrical systems (transformers, breakers, cables, motor control centers, synchronous and induction machines).
  • Guide and collaborate with vendor shop repairs on high voltage equipment and motors to ensure Air Liquide quality standards and compliance.
  • Develop detailed scopes for electrical projects and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate technicians, both Air Liquide and contract, to execute maintenance work.
  • Mentor and train facility operations and technical staff on the operation and maintenance of electrical systems and controls.
  • Maintain 95 % or greater compliance in the PM program and 100 % EIS (Element Important for Safety) PM compliance.
  • Advance and maintain the schedule for electrical PMs.
  • Plan work orders utilizing Maximo.
  • Assist in analysis and follow‑up on PdM data (thermography, relay and breaker testing, transformer oil/gas test, IR and PI of motors, PD testing, etc.).
  • Facilitate and contribute to Root Cause Analysis and Vulnerability Studies.
  • Develop and modify maintenance strategies based on RCA, VS, and risk analysis findings.
  • Participate in developing the annual maintenance schedule, budget and turnaround plans.
  • Ensure spare parts are adequately stocked, stored, and replenished as needed.
  • Work closely with contractors & monitor contractor work quality and cost.
  • Provide suggestions to improve plant safety, efficiency, reliability, and quality.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 10 + years of experience in plant high voltage equipment maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting high voltage transmission equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintenance of high voltage motors.
  • Thorough understanding of safety requirements when working around HV equipment.
  • Full range of motion and ability to lift 50 lb.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work off elevated platforms/surfaces.
  • Ability to work in non‑conditioned environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in flash suits for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods (1 to 10 days) with short notice.
