Position: RN, Clinical (Infusion) - PMOB Treatment Center - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

Position Summary

As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Infusion Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of patient care and education to the patient and family in accordance with the standards, policies, and practices in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment.

Departmental Summary

Additionally, the Infusion RN will also provide therapeutic care to patients in the outpatient setting with an emphasis on administering chemotherapy, biotherapy and other therapeutic IV infusions and injections. This role may be required to float to various locations for coverage and volume needs, including expected to learn the various locations' workflows.

Essential Duties
  • Follows policies and procedures: demonstrates ability to access online manuals and references.
  • Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the nursing process.
  • Assesses patients appropriately and completes nursing assessment and screening upon patient arrival to receive therapy.
  • Interprets assessment information and formulates nursing diagnosis.
  • Maintains problem list, medication list and allergies list.
  • Administers medications as ordered safely and efficiently utilizing appropriate precautions as necessary.
  • Administers chemotherapy and biotherapy by following correct procedure by policy.
  • Delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency.
  • Acts as patient advocate by intervening for effective management of side effects.
  • Documentation is complete and correct on all forms, including assessment and screening at each appointment, pain scale, review of possible side effects, consents, medication double-checking, and fully accurate documentation.
  • Provides patient and family education as needed based on treatment plan or change in condition.
  • Maintains B/P machine, IV infusion pumps, continuous patient monitor, monitors volume of equipment alarms, correctly identifies and notifies appropriate department about defective equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team including the patient and family by:
    • Direct handoff to inpatient area or department report for urgent patient care situations.
    • Appropriate patient/family interactions.
    • Effectively triaging phone calls.
    • Utilizing e‑mail system and SBAR.
  • Manages time effectively, organizes and prioritizes responsibilities, takes meal breaks without incurring overtime.
  • Observes regulatory agency requirements:
    National Patient Safety Goals, two patient identifiers, no unapproved abbreviations, procedural time‑out for invasive procedures, appropriate provider communication, medication reconciliation, audible alarms, hazardous waste management, biohazard, medication sharps, chemotherapy, HIPPA, OSHA, JCAHO, critical values procedures, dictated order validations, safe work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required upon hire.
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience in a related healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field, or in progress.
  • Oncology focus experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience administering chemotherapy and/or other types of infusions.
  • Specialty certification in oncology.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy (if not certified upon hire, must be obtained within 90 days of meeting eligibility criteria).
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) (if no card upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed before expiration).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
