Position Summary
The Hydro Vac Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating hydro excavation equipment to expose underground utilities, structures, and assets with minimal risk of damage. This role plays a critical part in supporting Nexus projects by ensuring excavation work is completed accurately, safely, and in compliance with company, client, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate takes pride in their equipment, follows safety protocols without compromise, and works collaboratively with field crews to deliver high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities- Operate hydro excavation (hydro vac) equipment safely and efficiently on active job sites
- Perform non-destructive excavation using high-pressure water and vacuum systems
- Expose underground utilities, pipelines, and infrastructure with precision and care
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of hydro vac trucks and equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned equipment and work areas
- Follow all Nexus safety policies, client safety requirements, and DOT regulations
- Communicate clearly with foremen, project managers, and crew members regarding site conditions and progress
- Assist with site setup, traffic control, and job site safety measures as needed
- Complete required documentation including job logs, safety checklists, and inspection reports
- Support other field activities as assigned to ensure project success
- Valid CDL
- Previous hydro vac or vacuum excavation experience
- Knowledge of underground utility locating and excavation best practices
- Strong commitment to safety and situational awareness
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Physically able to perform job duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- DOT medical card
- First Aid / CPR
- NCCER or industry-related certifications (a plus)

This role requires working in active construction and industrial environments. Employees must be able to safely navigate uneven terrain, operate heavy equipment, and work in all weather conditions while wearing required PPE.
