Job DescriptionGrace is seeking a qualified Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician to join our maintenance team! This role reports to the maintenance supervisor and is located at our Pasadena, Texas facility. This role is a day shift position on a 4-10 work schedule. As a member of a team, you will work closely with other technicians, engineers, and operators to complete work and solve problems.
The plant operates 365 days per year and 24 hours per day, so you will be part of an on-call schedule and may be required to work overtime or respond to off-hours equipment failures as needed.
- Perform all work in accordance with all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Perform all work in accordance with applicable industry and company standards, such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEC, and ISA.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic equipment and systems to determine problems and make repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits and equipment including VFDs, motors, and motor control circuits.
- Program VFD parameters as required.
- Test and calibrate safety instrumented systems (SIS) devices.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install electrical conduits and raceways.
- Pull wires through conduit and raceways.
- Mark up existing drawings and documentation related to electrical and process controls to keep them accurate and current.
- Clearly document as-found and as-left conditions for work performed.
- Initiate follow-up work notifications for repairs identified during preventive maintenance (PM) activities.
- Communicate effectively and often with supervisor and team regarding job status and any problems encountered.
- Engage in plant safety programs such as behavioral based safety observations, 5S efforts, and more.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid Texas Journeyman Industrial Electrician License.
- Experience working on AC distribution systems from 120 V to 12 kV.
- Experience working in a refinery or chemical plant.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to identify, interpret, and effectively use drawings and documentation related to electrical and process controls including electrical one-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control schematics, P&IDs, cause and effect diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, interconnect diagrams, OEM manuals, etc.
- Must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and participate in an on-call rotation for a 24-hour, 365 days per year working facility.
- Ability to use computers and software such as Microsoft Office suite and SAP.
- Experience working in a maintenance department for a refinery or chemical plant.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and solving problems with electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic equipment.
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot PLC and DCS logic, including ladder logic, function block, and structured text routines.
- NCCER certification, certificate/degree in instrumentation technology or equivalent experience.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
