Field Service Technician (Level
2)

This role supports a manufacturer of custom-engineered electrical equipment serving the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors. The Field Service Technician (Level
2) travels nationwide to install, commission, and troubleshoot complex electrical systems at client sites. The position combines hands-on mechanical and electrical work with direct customer interaction, detailed documentation, and close coordination with engineering and shop teams.

Responsibilities
  • Travel across the country to client sites to perform field installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting of custom-engineered electrical equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts to plan and execute installations accurately.
  • Install and assemble mechanical and electrical components of switch gear, control panels, breakers, power systems, transformers, and motor control centers (MCCs).
  • Independently install, wire, and terminate control panels, MCCs, breakers, transformers, and complex power systems at client facilities.
  • Perform electrical testing using multimeters, megohmmeters, and phase testers to verify system integrity and performance.
  • Reverse engineer issues in the field to identify root causes and develop effective solutions for clients.
  • Work directly with clients on-site to troubleshoot issues, explain findings, and ensure systems operate safely and reliably.
  • Conduct safety assessments at job sites and follow applicable safety standards and procedures.
  • Complete accurate field reports, testing documentation, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with shop personnel and engineers to communicate field issues, provide feedback, and support continuous improvement of products and installations.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to relay field conditions, client feedback, and any concerns that may impact project outcomes.
  • Adapt to a variety of client environments, including large industrial and critical infrastructure sites, while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
  • Work in a busy production shop when not traveling, assisting with builds, installations, and other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain and use appropriate tools, test equipment, and personal protective equipment to complete work safely and efficiently.
Essential Skills
  • 7 years of mechanical-related experience in an industrial or similar environment.
  • 4 years of industrial field service experience, including on-site installation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to install mechanical components and switch gear assemblies.
  • Hands-on electrical experience, including wiring, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial power systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring layouts.
  • Experience installing and servicing control panels, breakers, power systems, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), and switch gear.
  • Ability to travel across the country for varying durations, including multi-week assignments when needed.
  • Valid TWIC card to access secure and industrial facilities as required.
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment, including multimeters, megohmmeters, and phase testers.
  • Ability to reverse engineer problems in the field and develop practical solutions under time constraints.
  • Strong documentation skills, including completing field reports, test records, and other paperwork accurately.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety practices and electrical safety standards.
  • Capability to work independently in the field and as part of a team in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, engineers, shop staff, sales, and customer service teams.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • NFPA 70E certification or training in electrical safety in the workplace.
  • Experience with industrial installations at large customer sites and critical infrastructure facilities.
  • Comfort working in diverse and changing field environments with varying site conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt to unexpected issues.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering and technical teams to resolve complex field issues.
  • Ability to manage fluctuating travel schedules, including extended trips and periods working locally in the shop.
  • Detail-oriented approach to both technical work and administrative tasks such as reporting and documentation.
