PT Pooled Aquatics; Water Safety Instructor

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with swim lesson levels and use course materials effectively.
• Adapt teaching approaches to age, experience, and ability of participants to meet course objectives.
• Provide health and safety of participants, ensuring teaching areas are free of hazards, materials and equipment are safe.
• Cover all material required in a level.
• Communicate regularly with participants and parents to inform them of progress.
• Act as a Lifeguard for the City of Pasadena when not administering lessons.
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies per facility emergency action plans.
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
• Complete records and reports.
• Participate in regular in‑service training sessions.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Display customer service with greetings, surveys, and acknowledgements.
• Handle customer concerns promptly and provide feedback to ensure satisfaction.

• Weekly in‑services are mandatory for lifeguards.
• Make‑up in‑services must be completed before returning to lifeguard stand.

• Water Safety Instructors may work up to 39 hours per week; hours may vary by pool site.
• Hours may be scheduled as early as 7:15 a.m. and as late as 9:00 p.m.
• Must maintain necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and job requirements without interruption.
• Works assigned schedule and complies with the City’s timekeeping and attendance policy.

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
• Lifeguarding certification.
• CPR with AED certification.
• First Aid certification.
• Bloodborne pathogens certification.
• Water Park certification.

$13.50 per hour
