TheLead Product Design Engineerutilizes Solid Works software to provide product design services to Project Managers, and customers by preparing concept drawings, component layouts, detail drawings, 3D product and tooling models, and assembly drawings. TheLead Product Design Engineeringposition is also responsible for generating concepts, product design and development activities such as dimensional analysis, data analysis, design reviews, DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s,design presentations, as well as some customer interface.
ProductDesigner Responsibilities
Use Solid Works software for product design and development from conception to realization
Ability to direct edit imported parts, solid bodies surface bodies, etc..
Create 3D part models, 3D subassemblies and final assemblies, 2D drawings including BoMs and revision tables.
Read and understand blueprints to identify potential issues to provide possible solutions.
Conduct testing, collect and analyze data, and issue reports.
Review designs using critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate problems and provide solutions.
Perform dimensional analysis and tolerance studies to ensure design integrity.
Perform DFMEA’s and PFMEA’s as needed.
Update and maintain drawing and Engineering Standards.
Maintain an organized file system for component drawings.
Communicate with Project Managers, tool room, QA, and manufacturing regarding project details.
Prepare customer drawings as required.
Track capital spending and work with the financial department to identify any errors or anomalies with project costs.
Supervise Project Coordinator.
Education & ExperienceA Bachelors Degree in Engineering required
A minimum of 4 years’ experience of product design experience in an injection molding environment.
Experience inrigid plasticinjection molded plastic product design preferred.
In depth knowledge of injection molding, manufacturing, and tooling design are required.
Proficient using Solid Works software.
Lost Core Product Development experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesGD&T knowledge critical.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external customers via written and oral communication.
Communicate and establish rapport with current and potential vendors.
Demonstrate commitment to getting job done in quality manner.
Use project management skills to lead projects, including cross functional teams, and work multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to successfully work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Microsoft Office Suite experience, specifically proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Project.
