Position: ENGINEER TEST 4

With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years we’ve designed, built, and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. We’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades.

The Role

Design, develop, and implement testing methods and equipment. Plan and arrange the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provide the test area with parameters for sample testing and specify tests to be performed. Compile data and define changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Test all customer samples and perform special tests that cannot be tested in the test area.

Test Engineers review the System Test Requirements provided by Contract Specification and Engineering Department, gather equipment and system performance specifications for each construction contract, and incorporate those specifications into a structured test philosophy and approach. They provide Operational Test with Test Instructions and Procedures that demonstrate equipment and system performance to the external customer in compliance with the specifications/contract. Engineers identify test documents required to be developed (Test Index) and prepare and write the Test Procedure (TP).

They apply control processes (problem reporting) to ensure quality feedback and maintain records that reflect Test Verification Records (Test Reports) in compliance with contract specifications, Quality Management, and test requirements.
