Responsibilities
  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes computer‑aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, or CATIA; gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts or sketches to present design proposals.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups, considering ease of manufacture, material availability, contractual specifications, and cost.
  • Develops basic data and creates preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
  • Investigates design factors such as ease of manufacture, material availability, equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength‑weight efficiency, contractual requirements, and cost.
  • Coordinates with other affected organizations and makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
  • Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards and specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Identifies design errors, omissions, and deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements to responsible engineers or designers.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of experience.
  • Or Associate’s Degree or 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Proficient in Ship Constructor and AutoCAD for design support and extraction/development of new drawings.
  • Experience with Siemens NX for generating VWI (Virtual Work Instructions).
