GENERAL FUNCTION
The pipe welder welds together piping metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders or oral instructions. The pipe welder utilizes knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials including the specifications of the particular equipment to be used in the process.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Weld up prefabricated piping components using various welding procedures as outlined in blueprints or specifications.
- Chip off excess weld, slag and splatter using a power grinder, chipping gun or manual hammer.
Knowledge of pipe welding procedures and safety requirements.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING3 years of pipe welding experience is required but vocational training is acceptable. In some cases ABS (American Bureau of Ship Building) certification is required which confirms competency in different areas of pipe welding procedures.
