Chipton-Ross is seeking a Ship fitter for an opportunity in Pascagoula, MS.
Additional hourly PD is 18.38 for those that live over 75 miles with valid utility bill. This new rate will require a minimum of 2 hours worked daily and is capped at 8 hours maximum per day. There is NO differentiation for Premium or No Premium.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)- Minimum 3-5 years trade experience
- Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
- Read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
- Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam
- Experience with various trade specific tools such as: grinder, hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jack, chain fall and/or come-a-long, combination square, framing square, hand level, and plumb bob
First-Class Ship fitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Ship fitter or a Boilermaker, is responsible for various tools and equipment used in the fabrication, assembling and erection of metal components at the various stages in constructing a marine vessel. The shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day.
As with most every position in the shipyard, a Ship fitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. The client stresses the practice of working safely in all situations, with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
Must be able to perform all blast requirements and functions utilizing all applications. Identify and correct blast and paint deficiencies as required by the contract specifications.
A skill assessment will be a written and hands on test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)- 6+ years marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
- Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
- Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blueprint reading skills
- Accredited high school diploma or equivalent
Full Time - 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift.
