Cross-Trained Registered Nurse - Weekend/Flex Summary of ResponsibilitiesProvides comprehensive nursing services across multiple programs including ICORT, CSU, and Med Clinic during weekends and assigned shifts. This position requires flexibility and the ability to transition seamlessly between different service areas while maintaining high-quality patient care standards. The role ensures continuity of care during weekend hours and other assigned shifts when regular program staff may not be available.
Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies at all times. Rotates between ICORT, CSU, and Med Clinic services as scheduled or as needed. Provides nursing assessments in compliance with DMH standards and within the scope of Mississippi Nursing Practice Acts and Rules and Regulations. Administers medications and injections as prescribed by physicians and follows all other physician orders.
Evaluates clients' responses to medications, including effectiveness and side effects, documenting appropriately. Provides crisis assessment and intervention services when assigned to ICORT duties. Monitors clients' belongings for items of safety concern and/or contraband when working in CSU. Remains always awake and alert to provide supervision of clients and assistance when needed. Coordinates with psychiatrists and treatment teams across all service areas.
Documents appropriate activities in case note format that justify the need for treatment. Completes and submits service logs according to agency policy. Maintains case record documentation that is adequate, appropriate, complete, and timely. Reports any safety concerns or unusual incidents to the appropriate supervisor promptly. Assists in monitoring the physical environment of facilities, ensuring cleanliness and safety. Attends and participates appropriately in clinical staffing as requested.
Responds to clients' needs in an appropriate and timely manner. Participates as a team member across multiple program areas. Develops rapport with individuals and cultivates safe and supportive relationships. Provides medication education to clients and families. Completes additional job duties assigned by supervisor. Maintains licensure and seeks professional clinical training opportunities. Participates in interagency collaboration for the provision of client services.
Conducts medication inventory counts during shift changes when required.
Required
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Mississippi. Working knowledge of the DSM-5. Ability to adapt quickly to different work environments and responsibilities. Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills. Demonstrated flexibility in work schedule and assignments. Knowledge of psychotropic medications, indications for use, and side effects. Proficient in electronic health record documentation. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Current CPR certification. Completion of CPI within the first 30 days of employment. Knowledge of DMH standards and requirements.
Preferred
Minimum of 1 year experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing preferred. Experience with medication management for psychiatric disorders preferred. Crisis intervention experience preferred.
