Position: Registered Nurse (RN) | Part Time | Days - Comprehensive Rehab Unit

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and Accreditation Standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.

Responsibilities

and Scope of Practice

Provide clinical nursing services, manage patient care planning, perform assessments, administer medications, provide patient education, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams. Apply evidence‑based practice and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.

Certifications

All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. RNs working in the specialty areas listed are required to complete and maintain the following:

  • Cath Lab – ACLS
  • Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
  • Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
  • Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS
  • Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • Intensive Care Units – ACLS
  • Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
  • Medical Nursing – OB/GYN – PALS
  • Nursery – NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
  • Pediatrics – PALS
  • PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS

RNs have 12 months from the date they begin working in the specialty area to acquire the appropriate certification and an additional 18 months for TNCC certification for the Emergency Department. Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de‑escalation training.

Education

Graduate from NLN School of Nursing.

License

Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Experience

A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.

Reports To

Patient Care Manager.

Supervises

LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians.

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body. Involves repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions while operating standard office equipment, exposure to body fluids, sputum and tissues that may carry infectious disease.

Requires perception of sound at normal speaking levels, visual acuity, and ability to adjust focus of the eye to bring objects into sharp focus. Must be able to endure extended periods of activity without undue fatigue and be willing to work assigned schedules with potential changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.

Mental Demands

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision‑making abilities, superior communication skills both in person and by telephone, strong written and verbal communication, and emotional stability to handle high stress levels. Must work under pressure and meet deadlines, attend to detail, multitask in complex situations, maintain collaborative relationships throughout SRHS and partner organizations.

Special Demands

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must be proficient with a computer (keyboard proficiency) and other office technology (telephone, fax, MS Outlook, Word). Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
