Position Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled technical nursing care to patients according to predefined standards and a plan of care established by a Nurse Practitioner or Physician. Assumes other duties as assigned. The licensed practical nurse provides care utilizing the MS Nurse Practice Act, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System Department of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.
Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organizations, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.
- Provide skilled technical nursing care to patients according to predefined standards and a plan of care established by a Nurse Practitioner or Physician.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Utilize the MS Nurse Practice Act, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System procedures.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and governing guidance and publications.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program for Licensed Practical Nursing.
- Current State of Mississippi licensed as an LPN; expanded role licensure preferred.
- Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
6 months nursing experience preferred.

Assigned personnel.
- Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area.
- Exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
- Using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
- Ability to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels and adjust focus between computer monitor and printed material.
- Ability to be active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
- Must work schedules assigned with understanding that changes may occur for off days, shifts, or weekends.
- Demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
- Superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to give and receive information in person and by telephone.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in complex situations.
- Maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
- Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
- Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
