Position Overview

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position.

The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. The RN applies the Accreditation Standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Nursing Plan for provision of care, treatment, and services.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care following the Nursing Process and evidence-based practice.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.

Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely.

Participate in infection control activities and adhere to SRHS policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (NLN).

License: Current RN license in the state of Mississippi.

Certifications:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – required upon hire or transfer.
  • Specialty certifications:
    • Cath Lab – ACLS
    • Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
    • Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
    • Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS
    • Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
    • Intensive Care Units – ACLS
    • Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP
    • Medical Nursing – OB/GYN, PALS
    • Nursery – NRP
    • Pediatrics – PALS
    • PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
  • RNs must obtain specialty area certifications within 12 months of starting the specialty, and TNCC certification within 18 months for Emergency Department.
  • De‑escalation training completed within 90 days of orientation.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.

Reports to: Patient Care Manager

Supervises: LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, to move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Exert negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Perform repetitive motions, move wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.

Must perceive sound at normal speaking levels, adjust visual focus, and maintain active periods without undue fatigue. Able to work assigned schedules with changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.

Mental Demands

Demonstrate keen mental faculties for assessment and decision making. Superior communication skills in speaking and writing. Emotional stability to manage high stress levels. Work under pressure to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and ability to multitask in complex situations. Maintain collaborative and respectful relationships across SRHS and other organizations.

Special Demands

Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficient computer and office technology skills (MS Outlook, Word, telephone, fax). Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to patient populations of all ages.
