The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients to attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, accreditation standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and the SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
As such, this performance evaluation is based on these standards.
The RN must assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with the Nursing Process, maintain professional documentation, collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, and adhere to all applicable regulatory and institutional policies.
Education & LicensureGraduate from NLN School of Nursing.
License:
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.
- All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Cath Lab – ACLS
- Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
- Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
- Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS
- Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Intensive Care Units – ACLS
- Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Medical Nursing – OB/GYN, PALS
- Nursery – NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Pediatrics – PALS
- PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
RNs have 12 months from the date they begin working in the specialty area to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC certification for the Emergency Department. Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of orientation (90 days).
ExperienceA minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful completion of a refresher program.

Supervises: LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move around the office and facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area.
Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive sound at normal speaking levels…
Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.
Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision making abilities, superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, emotional stability to handle high stress levels, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task in complex situations. Must maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special DemandsMust possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
