Position Overview
The Security Officer helps establish, promote, and maintain hospital security and property protection programs for all facilities within the Singing River Health System. Patrols the facility to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism; responds to security needs of staff and visitors; investigates incidents, documents findings, and may testify in court.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain security presence and protect property, assets, and people.
- Patrol inpatient, outpatient, and support areas to detect and respond to potential risks.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and coordinate with medical staff and local law enforcement.
- Investigate incidents, complete reports, and follow up with corrective actions.
- Perform daily security checks and maintain logs.
- Assist with crowd control and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Maintain professionalism and uphold the hospital’s image.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum one (1) year of law enforcement or security experience.
- Completed SRHS Healthcare Security Training and de‑escalation training within 90 days of orientation.
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and tolerant in high‑stress situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including 12‑hour rotations.
- Valid driver’s license preferred; ability to travel within the SRHS service area.
Work requires moderate activity, frequent walking, and occasional lifting of objects. Tasks include operating office equipment, hearing normal spoken conversation, and maintaining visual acuity for reading documents. Must be able to work shifts that may involve overnight hours and weekends.
Mental DemandsRequires decisive judgment, strong communication, emotional stability, and the ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.
Special DemandsCustomer service orientation, computer proficiency (MS Outlook and Word), professional etiquette, and clinical judgment when interacting with a patient population of all ages.
