An Ironworker Helper assists Ironworker journeyman to complete tasks. May lay out, assemble and assist in complex tasks. Helpers learn mathematical functions and know their applications per their designated craft. Ability to properly identify and will receive instruction on the proper and safe use of, hand tools, power tools and equipment, including equipment for rigging and the corresponding procedures.
- Level IV:
Competent to complete Journeyman level Iron tasks with minimal supervision.
- Assists Journeyman by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the ironworker craft.
- Follow detailed instructions on new work assignments.
- Closely reviews work while tasks are being learned.
- Read blueprints and specification to determine the scope of work: location, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
- Identify all tools required for tasks and identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
- Use basic tools and care of the tools.
- Use of hand electric power tools and pneumatic tools.

- Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
- Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
- Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
- Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections.
- Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
- Participate in required and assigned training.
- Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
- Present a mature approach to working safely.
- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Level IV:
- Thirty-six (36) + months of heavy industrial-related iron experience
- Other verified experiences or certifications with iron experience
Level III:
- Twenty-four
24) to thirty-five (35) months of heavy industrial-related iron experience
Level II:
- Twelve (12) to twenty-three (23) months of heavy industrial-related iron experience
Level I:
- Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial-related iron experience
- One (1) year of industrial experience
- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

Physical requirements for this role may include but are not limited to:
- All weather conditions at varying temperatures
- Work at varying elevations
- Will work in windy and dusty environments
- Moderate to high noise levels
- The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
