Position: Rodbuster Journeyman - Various Locations

Rodbuster Journeyman - Various Locations

A Reinforcing Iron Journeyman will position and secure steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.

Overview of Primary Duties:
  • Determines the number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
  • Selects and places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
  • Cuts bars to required lengths, using a hacksaw, bar cutters, or acetylene torch.
  • Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine.
  • Reinforces concrete with wire mesh.
  • May reinforce concrete with wire mesh. May weld reinforcing bars together, using arc-welding equipment.
  • Ensures that all reinforcing material is in its proper position, so it receives its intended structural load.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
  • May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.

    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices

    • Participate in workplace inspections.
    • Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participate in required and assigned training.
    • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications:

Level III

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related reinforcing iron experience

Level II:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related reinforcing iron experience
  • NCCER “Performance” Reinforcing Iron Journeyman verification
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with reinforcing iron experience

Level I:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related reinforcing iron experience
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
  • The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
  • Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
