Hours & Salary

Schedule: 6.75 hours/day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday; 5.50 hours Wednesday; 4.00 hours Early Release Days; 180‑day calendar.

Salary: $21.38 – $23.72 per hour. Additional $0.50/hour for AA Degree, $0.75/hour for BA Degree.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Support instruction and behavior interventions using ABA techniques such as prompting, positive reinforcement, discrete trial training (DTT), and task analysis as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Facilitate expressive and receptive communication by modeling and encouraging student use of AAC devices, picture exchange systems, and other tools under teacher or therapist guidance.
  • Use proactive de‑escalation strategies and follow the student’s behavior support plan and approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques to ensure safety and support student regulation.
  • Deliver individualized or small group academic and functional instruction, monitor student engagement, and reinforce positive behaviors as directed by the teacher or specialist team.
  • Administer first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one‑on‑one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival/departure, crosswalk duty, transit to/from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading/loading wheelchair‑bound students.
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing equipment, setting up, taking down, and supervising students during age‑appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to district safety policies/procedures and required program guidelines.
  • Willing to assist with special needs students (diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, lifting, etc.).
  • Attend and complete annual required training hours for para educator certification.
  • Support, supervise, and/or assist administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within the student information management system(s).
  • Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians.
  • Participate in district meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Assist with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
Non‑Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist other personnel as required to support their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents/guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
  • Willingness to review materials provided by district personnel and/or attend college classes to improve instructional skills.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or biliterate (Spanish), required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    Associates degree (AAS/AA) or higher; 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
    Passing score on ETS para educator assessment.
  • Prior para educator experience, college, or on‑the‑job experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
  • Prior experience in a K‑12 school setting preferred but not required.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) trained or willing to attend training.
Required Licenses, Certifications and Testing
  • Passing score on district‑administered bilingual test.
