NEW HIRES ARE CONDITIONAL UPON PASSING A FINGERPRINT SCREENING
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
- Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
- Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
- Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
- Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival and/or departure, cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
- Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
- Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
- Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
- Attend and complete annual required training hours for para educator certification.
- Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
- Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
- Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians. (Bilingual only).
- Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting. Additional pay provided if performing these duties per CBA.
- Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
- Distribute documents and materials to appropriate staff, students and/or parents.
- Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
NON
- ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
- Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
- CPI trained or willingness to attend training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
- Must meet one or more of the following:
- Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher;
- Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
- Passing score onthe Educational Testing Service (ETS) para educator assessment.
- Prior para educator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
- Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
- Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
- Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.
REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of general office equipment such as computers, copiers, laminators, telephones, scanners, paper cutters, book covering materials, and/or step ladders.
- Knowledge in proper use of English in both written and verbal forms, use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records.
- Skill in operating standard office equipment including basic computer applications.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Understand and conduct verbal and written instruction.
- Knowledge and/or experience working with children with behavioral disabilities.
- Knowledge of de-escalation strategies.
- Knowledge of car seats, BESI seats and/or seat belts.
- Ability to securely strap in wheelchair(s).
- Knowledge of general cleaning supplies and usages.
- Ability to establish a plan to address student behavior.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING:
- Passing score on district administered bilingual test.
