Compensation: $55,000 - $75,000

About the Opportunity

A growing telecommunications and fiber infrastructure organization is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer I to support the planning, design, and implementation of Outside Plant (OSP) communications infrastructure projects.

This entry-level engineering position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals interested in fiber optic networks, telecommunications infrastructure, field engineering, and construction project support. The role combines office-based design work with field data collection, route verification, site assessments, permitting support, and construction compliance activities.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and eager to develop expertise in fiber optic network design, engineering standards, and telecommunications infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities Field Data Collection & Site Assessments
  • Assist with the collection of aerial and underground field data using GPS equipment, measuring tools, and field documentation techniques.
  • Verify existing routes and infrastructure conditions.
  • Document utility locations and incorporate field findings into project designs.
  • Conduct field visits and site assessments to support engineering and construction activities.
OSP Design & Drafting Support
  • Support the design and modification of fiber optic infrastructure projects.
  • Convert field-collected data into preliminary engineering designs using GIS, mapping, and drafting tools.
  • Assist with project documentation, route development, and design updates.
  • Support engineering teams with design reviews and project deliverables.
Permitting & Regulatory Support
  • Prepare and submit 811 One-Call utility locate requests.
  • Assist with permitting applications and supporting documentation.
  • Support regulatory compliance activities associated with telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in site walks and project meetings with customers, property owners, and stakeholders.
  • Document site conditions, project requirements, and design considerations.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to project engineers and internal teams.
Construction Support & Compliance
  • Observe and document construction activities to verify compliance with project plans and standards.
  • Assist with identifying, documenting, and tracking field issues or design discrepancies.
  • Support project teams throughout construction and implementation phases.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of:
    • National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • OSP engineering principles
    • Ensure engineering and construction activities align with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience
  • 0-3 years of experience in engineering, telecommunications, infrastructure design, construction support, or related technical fields.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic infrastructure, utility systems, or telecommunications networks is preferred.
  • Exposure to CAD, GIS, mapping software, or Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Understanding of engineering documentation and construction processes preferred.
Skills & Abilities Technical Skills
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, mapping platforms, or Bluebeam PDF software is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, maps, and project documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, field personnel, contractors, and customers.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Ability to identify issues, gather information, and support practical solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.

  • Maintain a valid driver's license and driving record that meets company insurability requirements.
