Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Space Planning & Asset Management provides strategic oversight of campus interior environments to ensure spaces are functional and visually appealing. This role combines data‑driven space planning with hands‑on program management for interior upkeep, including furniture, flooring, and finishes. The position plays a critical role in optimizing space utilization, maintaining accurate facilities data systems, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external agencies to support a high‑quality environment for students and employees.
ReportingThis position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Operations.
SalaryThe salary range for this position is $74,473 - $82,321.

Responsibilities- Lead strategic planning for campus space usage, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and optimal utilization of all facilities.
- Track and analyze office, lab, and classroom usage, identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities for improved efficiency.
- Maintain and continuously update room and asset data in systems such as FPMT, Direct Line, and 25
Live, addressing existing data backlogs and ensuring long‑term accuracy. - Collaborate with campus departments and stakeholders to prepare and submit required reports to the state on space utilization, including analysis of variance from established targets.
- Oversee and manage interior upkeep programs, including
- Carpet replacement program
- Furniture ordering and replacement programs
- Interior painting program
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all interior spaces and furnishings and develop proactive plans for repair and replacement cycles.
- Anticipate future interior space needs and recommend cost‑effective, scalable solutions; meet with campus stakeholders to assess furniture and interior needs; coordinate with vendors to develop solutions, obtain quotes, and support procurement processes.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce deferred maintenance and backlog items, particularly related to data systems and interior upgrades; improve data integrity in space management systems.
- Expand capacity and improve processes for furniture ordering and lifecycle management.
- Read and understand construction drawings and plans in order to create square‑footage calculations and lay out furniture.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, interior design, architecture, planning, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in space planning, facilities management, or interior asset management.
- Five (5) years of experience managing multiple projects and programs simultaneously.

Equivalent Experience- Equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Familiarity with space management systems (e.g., 25
Live, Direct Line, FPMT) or similar platforms. - Knowledge of state reporting requirements and energy compliance standards.
- Experience in higher education or large institutional environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in data management and inventory tracking.
- Ability to effectively use design and visualization software such as Visio and AutoCAD and office and classroom layouts.
Interpret utilization data, facilities metrics, and asset information to identify trends, evaluate space usage, and assess operational effectiveness. Develop clear, actionable insights that inform space allocation decisions, reporting requirements, and continuous improvement efforts across campus.
Project ManagementPlan, organize, and manage multiple concurrent projects and ongoing programs, including interior renewal initiatives, space data updates, and asset lifecycle activities. Establish priorities, coordinate stakeholders and vendors, and ensure timely progress and completion while balancing competing demands and institutional priorities.
