Job Description Summary

Repairs and maintains equipment and systems including but not limited to grading, sorting, conveying, weighing, packaging, palletizing and auto truck loading equipment to assure proper operation. Advises supervisory personnel on maintenance requirements, repairs equipment, and performs maintenance activities that sustain equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.
  • Performs and documents line checks, corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance, including the lubrication and inspection of equipment to sustain equipment reliability.
  • Examines parts to detect imperfections, identify reason for failure, and take corrective action.
  • Performs and documents troubleshooting of electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems and controls.
  • Performs and documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of plant equipment.
  • Evaluates equipment for performance, performs adjustments, etc., as needed to assure optimal equipment performance and the production of quality potato products.
  • Performs non-routine maintenance jobs assigned by packaging maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management and performs repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Understands and follows all applicable plant safety policies including lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Maintains 5S standards (Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine and Sustain), keeps a neat, clean, orderly work area.
  • Identifies and names stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum.
  • Follows instructions given in work logs, equipment manuals, etc.
  • Repairs or assists in repairs in other plant areas as instructed by the maintenance lead, supervision or management.
  • Cuts, welds and repairs/install piping and equipment to company specifications using prints, sketches, diagrams and blueprints.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop or trace patterns of parts or uses templates.
  • Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds materials together.
  • Constructs foundation for machines and aligns machines and equipment.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, nibblers and routers to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
  • Operates Powered Lift Trucks, Scissor/Man Lifts and Snorkel Lifts to facilitate maintenance tasks.
  • Assists with coaching new employees in the proper and safest way to repair equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred; six‑month certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of one year education and related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write instructions, correspondence, and memos in English; present or listen in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
  • Proficient in basic mathematics – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume; apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle variables when limited standardization exists; interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
  • Physical demands: walking, using hands, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, speaking, hearing, tasting, smelling; lifting up to 30 pounds regularly, 50 pounds frequently, occasionally 50 pounds; visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.
  • Work environment: occasional high, precarious work, outside weather, sub‑freezing temperatures; exposure to fumes, toxins, caustic chemicals, electrical shock; loud noise levels.
