Job Description Summary

Repairs and maintains equipment and systems including grading, sorting, conveying, weighing, packaging, palletizing, and auto‑truck loading equipment. Advises supervisory personnel on maintenance requirements, performs repairs, and sustains equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote safe work practices, participate in safety programs.
  • Perform and document line checks, corrective maintenance, and preventive maintenance including lubrication and inspection of equipment.
  • Examine parts to detect imperfections, identify reasons for failure, and take corrective action.
  • Document troubleshooting of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and controls.
  • Document removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of plant equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment performance, perform adjustments as needed to ensure optimal performance and quality of potato products.
  • Perform non‑routine maintenance jobs assigned by leadership with minimal supervision.
  • Understand and follow plant safety policies, including lockout/tagout procedures.
Other Job Functions
  • Maintain 5S standards (Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine, Sustain); keep work area neat and orderly.
  • Identify and name stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.
  • Follow instructions in work logs and equipment manuals.
  • Assist in repairs in other plant areas as directed by maintenance lead or management.
  • Cut, weld, and repair/install piping and equipment to company specifications using prints, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material for pattern development or tracing.
  • Weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk, or bond materials together.
  • Construct foundations for machines; align machines and equipment.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, nibblers, and routers.
  • Operate powered lift trucks, scissor/man lifts, and snorkel lifts to facilitate maintenance activities.
  • Coach new employees in proper and safe equipment repair techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; two‑year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of four years education and related experience.
  • Language skills: ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate proportions and percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical demands: walk, use hands to manipulate objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, sit, lift 30–50 pounds regularly; maintain close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
  • Work environment: use personal protective equipment; occasionally work in high or precarious places, outside weather conditions, and near fumes, chemicals, or electrical shock.
