H&N Electric is seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team. The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments for the repair and maintenance of a variety of equipment. The Machinist will fabricate and modify parts utilizing lathe and other specialty machines to ensure parts meet specifications for the repair of a variety of equipment.

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

Pay Range: $26.00/hr-$38.00/hr (commensurate with experience and education)

Position Summary:

Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and test electro-mechanical equipment in accordance with job cards and supervisor direction.

  • Perform machining operations (turning, drilling, tapping, boring, conventional milling and lathe work) on engine lathes, horizontal/vertical mills, and horizontal boring mills.
  • Set up and perform precision operations including tool-post grinding (surface facing), broaching, babbitt bearing work, and dynamic balancing of mechanical assemblies.
  • Use and maintain hand-held and stationary power/non-power tools (band saws, belt sanders, grinders, files, etc.) to complete machining and repair tasks.
  • Measure and verify part dimensions using micrometers, calipers, and other gauges; record sizing, illustrations, and all data necessary to achieve expected service/design results.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and secure heavy objects safely; operate overhead cranes and other lifting equipment as required.
  • Follow and enforce safety procedures, using appropriate personal protective equipment (especially eye and ear protection).
  • Keep work areas, tooling, and equipment clean, organized, and maintained to shop standards.
  • Assist other machinists and shop departments with skilled or non-skilled duties per supervisor direction.
  • Perform additional shop duties as assigned (parts washing, shop cleanup, mechanical work, and related support tasks).

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 3+ years of applicable experience, including but not limited to:
  • Use Micrometer for getting accurate measurements
  • Use Lathe and Mill material to specification
  • Capable of holding 0.0005” machining tolerances with a variety of equipment.
  • Research proper specifications of parts through various resources (EASA, Manufacturer)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Understand, perform, and retain various skill-related training and operational and safety procedures
  • Able and willing to work weekends and/or overtime as needed
  • Able to successfully complete background check and drug and alcohol screening(s)
