Position: Director of Nursing (DON) Behavioral Health

Homeland Talent Solutions has partnered with a respected healthcare organization to identify a strong nursing leader for a Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health opportunity supporting inpatient behavioral health nursing operations and outpatient medication management services within a collaborative acute care environment. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee program operations, support departmental growth, drive nursing excellence, and enhance patient-centered behavioral health services across the organization.

The Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health will provide administrative, clinical, operational, and fiscal oversight for behavioral health nursing services while partnering closely with executive leadership to support regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, employee engagement, and operational performance. The Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health will oversee day-to-day nursing operations across inpatient psychiatric services and outpatient medication management programs, ensuring high-quality patient care and a positive, collaborative work environment.

The ideal candidate for the Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health role will bring strong behavioral health nursing leadership experience, operational management expertise, and a patient-first mindset. This leader will thrive in a collaborative healthcare setting and demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to staff development, and the ability to lead quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives throughout the department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of inpatient behavioral health nursing operations on a 24-hour basis
  • Oversee outpatient medication management nursing services and day-to-day departmental operations
  • Support staffing, employee performance, engagement, and retention initiatives
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and nursing standards of care
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards
  • Partner with executive leadership on program development and strategic initiatives
  • Drive quality improvement, patient experience, and operational performance efforts
  • Promote collaboration across interdisciplinary teams within Behavioral Health and the broader hospital system
  • Support a culture focused on compassion, accountability, communication, and service excellence
Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field required
  • Current Washington State RN license required or ability to obtain prior to start
  • 3–5+ years of behavioral health or psychiatric nursing leadership experience required
  • Prior inpatient psychiatric leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Experience leading teams within an acute care or hospital-based behavioral health environment preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and operational management skills required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred

Day Shift

This opportunity offers competitive pay of $53.51-$72.23/hour based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. The organization also offers a $25,000 commitment incentive bonus, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a 401(k) with employer match.
