Summary- Is responsible for the routine and non‑routine repair and maintenance of process equipment and systems.
- Has some basic mechanical aptitude to build on and an eagerness to expand their knowledge and to build skills in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and department systems in compliance with established company standards. Process equipment and systems include but is not limited to receiving, sorting, conveying, pumping, weighing, peeling, scrubbing, blanching, cutting, drying, battering and frying.
- Prior experience with processing equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and welding is a definite advantage.
- Will develop the skills necessary to repair process equipment and perform maintenance activities that improve and sustain equipment reliability to maximize plant production and uptime.
- Must be able to work the scheduled days, shifts, times and overtime required for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.
- Performs assigned duties and responsibilities in a safe and satisfactory manner.
- Complies with all instructions, procedures, rules, practices, policies and other items covered in the employee handbook.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance, including lubrication and inspection of equipment, to sustain and improve equipment reliability.
- Conducts safe isolation, shutdown, inspection, adjustment, repair/overhaul or startup of equipment and systems.
- Performs troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic issues.
- Documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of plant components and equipment as needed.
- Documents corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance such as lubrication and inspection in SAP, Belt Tracking form, FM form, BDE card, etc.
- Evaluates equipment for performance, performs adjustments, and ensures optimal equipment performance and quality potato production.
- Performs non‑routine maintenance jobs assigned and monitored by senior maintenance staff.
- Shares learnings with colleagues, salaried team members and outside resources to improve safety, relationships and equipment performance.
- Assists other work groups, specialists, outside resources and contractors with troubleshooting, adjustment, repair, replacement, modification, maintenance, rebuilding and installation.
- Utilizes resources such as equipment manuals, operating instructions, troubleshooting guidelines, blueprints, schematics and diagrams to assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair or replace equipment.
- Develops knowledge and skills necessary to advance from a 3rd Class Process Mechanic to a 2nd Class Process Mechanic within 12 months of hire or transfer.
- Supports the advancement test requiring a weld test, written test and hands‑on validation of advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Failure to pass the 2nd Class advancement test may result in termination or reassignment.
- Maintain 5S standards:
Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine and Sustain. - Follow instructions and advise team leader and planner of inaccuracies in work orders, manuals or schematics.
- Use SAP to locate equipment and parts, and to check storage information.
- Assist store personnel to locate equipment or parts in secured areas.
- Provide accurate information to planners about BOM inaccuracies.
- Submit notifications for deficiencies noted during tasks.
- Examine parts to identify defects and root cause.
- Complete assigned work in a timely manner and account for time worked.
- Perform troubleshooting, replacement and re‑wiring of electrical components.
- Document motor amp‑draw compared to FLA rating.
- Repair or assist in repairs in other plant areas as instructed.
