Job Description Summary
  • Responsible for the routine and non‑routine repair and maintenance of process equipment and systems.
  • Develops skills in repairing and maintaining process equipment, including receiving, sorting, conveying, pumping, weighing, peeling, scrubbing, blanching, cutting, drying, battering, and frying.
  • Prior experience with processing equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and welding is a definite advantage.
  • Works scheduled days, shifts, times, and overtime as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, actively participates in safety programs.
  • Performs corrective and preventive maintenance including lubrication and inspection of equipment.
  • Safely isolates, shuts down, inspects, adjusts, repairs/overhauls, or starts up equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues to identify defects and take corrective action.
  • Documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of plant components and equipment using SAP and other forms.
  • Evaluates equipment performance, performs adjustments to meet operating ranges, and shuts down or switches to backup equipment as needed.
  • Performs non‑routine maintenance jobs assigned by the Process Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, or Plant Management.
  • Shares learnings with teammates and external resources to improve safety, collaboration, and equipment performance.
  • Assists other work groups, specialists, contractors, and outside resources with troubleshooting, adjustment, repair, replacement, and installation of components.
  • Utilizes printed or online manuals, operating instructions, troubleshooting guidelines, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, or replace equipment or system components.
  • Advances from 3rd to 2nd Class Process Mechanic within 12 months, meeting a 75% pass rate on written examinations.
  • Failure to pass the 2nd Class advancement test may result in termination or reassignment.
Other Job Functions
  • Maintains 5S standards and a neat, clean work area.
  • Follows verbal instructions, work orders, manuals, and advises Team Leader on inaccuracies.
  • Uses SAP to locate equipment, drawings, parts, and inventory information.
  • Assists Stores personnel with locating equipment or parts when needed.
  • Provides accurate details to Planner(s) on inaccuracies found in BOMs.
  • Submits notifications for deficiencies noted during tasks.
  • Examines parts to identify defects and takes corrective action.
  • Completes assigned work promptly and accounts for time worked using CMMS (SAP).
  • Troubleshoots, replaces, and re‑wires electrical components, verifying proper torque and functionality.
  • Compares motor amp‑draw to FLA rating during troubleshooting.
  • Repairs or assists in repairs in other plant areas as instructed.
  • Participates in DMS and other programs as assigned.
  • Differentiates between stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum; selects appropriate fabrication/welding processes.
  • Develops skills in welding, soldering, bolting, riveting, screwing, clipping, caulking, and bonding.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment (e.g., multimeters, infrared gauges).
  • Opens and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, and routers.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions, references, and templates for parts.
  • Aligns machines and equipment as needed.
  • Follows established procedures for safe operation and maintenance.
  • Shares learnings to improve safety and performance.
  • Operates Powered Lift Trucks, Scissor Lifts, and other lift equipment as necessary.

Education and/or

Experience:

High School diploma or GED preferred; 6‑month college or technical certificate, or equivalent combination of one‑year education and related experience.

Language

Skills:

Reads, writes, and understands English instructions.

Mathematical

Skills:

Performs basic arithmetic, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and algebraic concepts.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and interprets varied instructions.
