The Role:
As a Mechanic, you will play an important role in keeping the City of Pasco's vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community. This position performs skilled mechanical work in the diagnosis, preventative maintenance, repair, modification, and overhaul of diesel and gasoline-powered City vehicles and equipment.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing mechanical repairs on gasoline and diesel equipment, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to complete quality work safely and efficiently. This role requires knowledge of automotive and diesel mechanic methods, tools, equipment, technology, and safety practices.
You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on trucks, tractors, cars, graders, backhoes, mowers, and related vehicles and equipment. This position also services vehicles, operates standard shop equipment and hand tools, diagnoses mechanical problems using electronic and mechanical test equipment, repairs gasoline and diesel engines, welds and fabricates parts, repairs hydraulic systems, and maintains accurate repair records.
Required
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two (2) years of training in automotive technology.
- Four (4) years of mechanical repair experience with gasoline or diesel equipment.
Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver license.
- CDL Class B and air brake endorsements.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of trade school.
- Automotive Service Excellence mechanical certification.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and special equipment.
- Experience with fuel systems, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, cooling systems, and related mechanical systems.
- Experience operating computerized and standard testing equipment.
- Experience welding, fabricating, and modifying equipment.
- Experience maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Strong ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and complete work safely and efficiently.

Safety/Work Conditions:
- Duties are primarily performed in the vehicle maintenance shop and may require traveling to emergency sites to support equipment operations.
- Environment:
Work is performed inside a shop area, with repairs made in the field when necessary. This position may be exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, and gases. - Physical:
Work requires mobility and agility to perform manual labor repairs in cramped conditions. This position frequently lifts heavy materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. - Vision:
