Education Advocate/Care Coordinator

The Education Advocate/Care Coordinator provides comprehensive care coordination, recovery support, and educational advocacy for justice-involved youth and youth with behavioral health and substance use needs. The position conducts behavioral health screenings, develops individualized recovery and reentry plans, coordinates treatment and community services, and supports successful transitions from detention, probation, diversion, or treatment into school, vocational training, employment, or other post-secondary opportunities.

Essential functions include assessing student needs and recommending educational programs, assisting in developing education plans for transitioning students, meeting with students and families to facilitate school enrollment and coordinate job placement, monitoring progress and attendance of transition students, participating in meetings and traveling to gather and convey information, serving as a liaison between education programs and detention facilities, maintaining contact with school districts and educational programs, providing consultation and training regarding delinquent youth, and completing reports and maintaining confidential student records.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, education, or criminal justice; or a two-year associate's degree or a SUDP Certification and a minimum of two years' experience working with local community services or government agencies regulating social and/or health services, juvenile justice, or rehabilitation. Experience working with at-risk youth, preferably in a school setting; experience in case management, documentation, and record keeping;

minimum 1 year of experience working with adolescents. Demonstrated case management / record keeping skills. Demonstrated knowledge of alcohol / drug abuse federal confidentiality laws. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of substance abuse assessment, intervention, treatment, and recovery process for adolescents and families. Demonstrated knowledge of violence as it relates to bullying and harassment. Demonstrated verbal and written skills. Willingness to take direction from supervisors and understand ESD policies and procedures related to employee responsibilities.

Ability to work successfully as an ESD team member by contributing to the ESD Strategic Plan, including supporting agency initiatives and sponsored events. WSP/ FBI background clearance required.

Working conditions/physical requirements:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment. Travel to schools within Benton & Franklin area; travel to trainings, local and state meetings;

work schedule is flexible to meet the requirements of the job therefore evening and weekend work may be required.
