Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment:
Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc. - Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment:
Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc. - Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and provide information, assistance, or problem resolution.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders (“RO”) via the company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
- Work independently and manage your daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and the support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain the company‑issued service truck, performing safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. A different combination (e.g., a degree or certification beyond a HS diploma/GED, or 5 years of experience) may be accepted.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations issued by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Candidate must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical before employment.
- Submit a current and valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining in lieu of a DOT physical. If the card has ≤4 months validity, a DOT physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
- Valid driver's license required; must hold a state‑of‑residence license, obtain, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Understand the implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Exert physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks.
- Communicate facts, ideas, or messages succinctly and organize information; engage in effective two‑way communication.
