Application Engineer – Job Overview
The Application Engineer at Zurn Elkay Water Solutions Corporation researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of company products and competing equipment to internal and external customers. The role involves product training, advanced technical support, and technical collaboration across sales, engineering, and product development teams.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluates the usage and application of Zurn products in the design of customer systems, including fire protection, plumbing, and irrigation systems in multiple markets.
- Provides technical product, design, and troubleshooting assistance to internal and external customers.
- Trains others on fluids engineering concepts, plumbing codes, fire codes, industry performance standards, and product installation techniques.
- Determines functional condition for returned goods through performance inspections and assists Quality Assurance with documenting inspection reports.
- Liaises with the sales team as a technical expert, through layout drawings, hydraulic calculations, research memos, and compliance reports.
- Creates presentations and product comparisons for sales assistance and training.
- Delivers live, virtual, or pre-recorded product knowledge training to internal employees, customers, sales reps, distributors, and contractors.
- Represents Zurn in the field during installation, troubleshooting, or other post-sales support, including witness testing at a site or lab for insurance claims.
- Drives continuous improvement activities within the group through ownership of the process plan.
- Expedites customer resolutions by coordinating actions and feedback from customer care, quality, and engineering.
- Utilizes SWOT analysis to review internal and competitive products.
- Collaborates with the New Product Development (NPD) team to create specification documentation to aid with spec share growth and GTMS strategy.
- Assists the NPD team with BETA testing process by identifying potential opportunities, obtaining feedback, and monitoring product performance to support the GTMS strategy.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or other technical discipline with 0-1 years of experience, or 2 years of experience in a related area in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Excel, Word, Access, Teams, Sharepoint).
- Strong teamwork, presentation, project management, and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and process schematics.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work directly with customers on a daily basis.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- Competitive Salary $71,000- $75,000.
