JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

* A valid New Jersey principal certificate or certificate of eligibility.

* A master's degree or higher.

* At least six (6) years working in public education in the areas of teaching or educational support services; and school administration or supervision of educational programs.

* A valid New Jersey teaching certificate or educational support services certificate.

* Management and communication skills.

* Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools

SUPERVISES:

* Assistant Principals

* Instructional Chairpersons

* Language Acquisition Instructional Chairpersons - Elementary

* Special Education Instructional Chairpersons - Elementary

* School Counselors

* School Library Media Specialists (Librarians) School Social Workers

* Teacher Coaches

* Teachers Coordinators

* Teacher Leaders Teachers Paraprofessionals Parent Liaisons Custodians

* Food Service Staff Security Aides Other school staff

* Other staff members as the Superintendent may designate.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for excellent academic performance.

* Lead, manage, supervise, develop, and evaluate personnel supervised and other staff members as the Superintendent or his designee may designate in accordance with law, code, and Board policy.

* Develop, schedule, coordinate, implement, and monitor professional development of personnel supervised.

* Organize, manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the entire school consistent with the vision, mission, and goals of the school and district, including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, financial management, facilities maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, emergency procedures, and community relations. Ensure compliance with all laws, administrative codes, board policies and regulations.

* Lead school level planning processes to ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of all school programs and activities.

* Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the district and school's vision, mission, goals.

* Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development. Develop with individual staff members professional growth and improvement plans. Ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity, that they address each student's needs, interests, and skill levels, that they encourage the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning, and that they provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and accomplishments.

* Provide and supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the vision, mission, and goals of the school district, in accordance with due process and other laws and regulations, ensuring a safe, orderly environment that encourages, students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students. File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, and attendance;
Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB); and discipline matters.

* Establish a professional rapport with students and with staff that earns their respect. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
