Full time Lead Cataloger -- Franklin Township Public Library -- Somerset, NJ

Franklin Township Public Library (FTPL) is seeking to welcome to its staff an experienced catalog librarian who can efficiently and accurately catalog and classify print and electronic resources. This department head position is responsible for supervising the library’s technical services staff and reports to the Director of Library Services.

Required Qualifications:

• MLS from an ALA-accredited program with New Jersey Professional Librarian certification.
• Minimum of five years of professional library experience in cataloging
• Demonstrated supervisory experience with a team of two or more staff members.
• Detailed knowledge and ability to catalog all forms of library materials using RDA standards, Dewey classification, and LCSH.
• Experience with authorities work.
• Ability to develop and document departmental practices.
• Experience leading other catalogers.
• Skill in creating and maintaining effective relationships with library vendors.
• Ability to facilitate acquisitions with library selectors and processing staff.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous work with Leap and in maintaining a legacy database
• Ability to confidently work with titles in a multitude of foreign languages.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to use a computer for extended periods, navigate library shelves, and occasionally lift piles of books up to 25 pounds, and to bend, reach, and push loaded book carts
• Required to maintain regular, continuous punctuality and attendance
• Required to work one hour per week at the library’s reference desk.

Work week of 37.5 hours. Employees in this category receive health (medical, prescription, dental) insurance; generous vacation, sick, personal, and holiday leave; and contribute to the pension system (PERS).

The Franklin Township Public Library hires under NJDOP and EOE Guidelines. New employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year unless an exemption applies under the New Jersey First Act.

“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay

$80,000 -- $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience
