The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a Lecturer of Communication (contract faculty) position in the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts beginning in August 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lecturers will teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester on the South Orange campus, with potential courses including COST 1600 “Speaking and Listening in a Digital Age”, COMM 1670 “Introduction to Communication Theory”, COMM 2623 “Persuasive Speaking”, COMM 2625 “Public and Presentational Speaking”, and COMM 2626 “Rhetorical Criticism”. They will also maintain a strong presence on campus while engaging in high‑impact activities such as teaching, advisement, mentoring, and academic program development.

Lecturers are initially appointed for a one‑year term, which may be renewed and extended for up to three years by the University. There is no limit on the number of renewals that may be sought, subject to Department and College needs. Lecturers may be eligible for promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned M.S. or M.A. from an accredited institution in a communication discipline (or related field).
  • One year of experience teaching communication to undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively, individually and in teams, with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a communication discipline (or related field).
  • Experience working with diverse populations or a strong commitment to multicultural education and inclusive practices.
  • Experience teaching courses both on‑campus and alternate modalities with demonstrated effectiveness.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations, research, and academic innovation across the College's Academic Departments and University.
  • Qualified for a secondary administrative appointment in Forensics (including debate experience, tournament hosting, coaching experience, a valid driver’s license, and transportation for student tournaments).
Licenses and Certificates

If applicable, a secondary appointment related to Forensics requires a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range

$55,071 – $61,190.

Exempt/Nonexempt

Exempt.
